What are engine heat tabs?

They are small metal tabs that contain a specialized material in the center designed to melt at a specific temperature.

What are engine heat tabs used for?

They are used for monitoring engine temperature to determine whether or not an engine has exceeded the recommended margin, otherwise known as "overheating." There are 3 critical reasons why you should use engine heat tabs if you are a shop owner or in the engine rebuilding or remanufactured motor business.

Do you sell high quality engine heat tabs? I am concerned about using a cheap product.

We only source and sell high-grade, professionally manufactured engine heat tabs designed specifically for engine temperature monitoring in all environments where they will be expected to perform. These heat tabs are produced using top-quality materials that meet and exceed requirements. We conduct regular testing through a U.S. laboratory who certifies these products adhere to melting temperature specification.

Our 5-Point Promise - our engine heat tabs are:

  1. DESIGNED specifically for gasoline, diesel, and marine engine temperature monitoring
  2. ENGINEERED in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility
  3. TESTED to ensure adherence to stringent design specifications
  4. PROVEN - literally millions of them have been sold and used
  5. CERTIFIED to perform and melt at the proper melting point

Who should use engine heat tabs?

Producers of remanufactured engines, engine builders, engine rebuilders, custom/performance motor tuners and engine builders, and auto repair and service shops offering full service including engine building and rebuilding. If you are one of these, be sure to visit our remanufactured motor and engine rebuilder shop owner's page to learn more about getting a commercial account with us.

How many engine heat tabs should I put on an engine?

In order to ensure proper monitoring coverage it is best to use four of them on one engine.

Where are the best locations on an engine to put engine heat tabs?

The best locations are on both of the cylinder heads and both sides of the engine block.

What kind of adhesive or glue should I use to put engine heat tabs on an engine?

A high-heat metal adhesive designed to perform above the temperature conditions of the case and cylinder head (outside surface temperature) is necessary to ensure long-lasting results. We recommend Brock Supply High Heat Auto Sealant & Adhesive.

At what temperature do engine heat tabs melt?

We provide three types of heat tabs, each with a unique melting point for specific applications.

  • Gasoline heat tabs melt at 260 F (127 C)
  • Diesel heat tabs melt at 240-250 F (116-121 C)
  • Marine heat tabs melt at 195-200 F (91-93 C)

What temperature does an engine have to reach to be considered "overheated?"

For gasoline engines, the typical application produced in recent years will have a temperature range of roughly 195 to 220 degrees F. This is considered "normal" operating range. A gasoline engine can be considered to enter into overheated conditions at 230-240 degrees F, with serious damage starting to occur around 250+ degrees F.

Diesel and marine engines have different operating temperature ranges and overheating points. We have diesel engine heat tabs and marine engine heat tabs produced specifically for these applications.

How many engine heat tabs should I order?

That depends on how many you expect to use. Given a recommendation of four engine heat tabs per motor, you will want to project how many engines you expect to apply heat tabs to and also how often you want to order additional supplies. One tube of our gasoline or diesel engine heat tabs has 100 in them while the tubes of marine engine heat tabs have 50.

We strongly recommend using private label engine heat tabs to reduce the instance of fraud. We offer a very low minimum, free shipping and no setup fee.
